Mr. T.K. Daniel, the founder Chairman launched 'Popular' in 1965 as a Chitty Fund with the registered office at Vakayar, near Konni in Pathanamthitta Dist of Kerala State. From a humble beginning, it has attained the present stature due to the efficient management of affairs, and careful handling of funds. There is a board of directors headed by the chairperson Ms. Marykutty Daniel wife of the founder Chairman Mr. T.K. Daniel, to monitor and control the routine activities. The responsibility of managing the day-to-day affairs is vested with Mr. Thomas Daniel (Roy) the only son of Mr. T.K. Daniel, who is supported by a team of professionals. The great visionary Mr. T.K. Daniel passed away in 2005 December. Soon after the commencement of its operation in 1965, the institution became highly "popular" among the public resulting in registering a steady growth in business every year. People from all walks of life accepted Popular as the synonym for stability and reliability. The management widened the business by regularly opening new branches inside and outside the state and also ventured into various other business activities. Since the financing activity is restricted to advance against gold ornaments only, non performing asset is practically nil and hence the institution is returning handsome profits every year. There are eighty seven branches, spread across the country, apart from an office each in Australia and Dubai. A few more branches are under the process of complying with the formalities to commence functioning in 2008 itself. More than five hundred qualified regular staffs constitute the workforce of the institution. The total annual turnover of the business is above Rs.600 Crores. The clientele vary from the very ordinary to the high-income group. All the branches enjoy the support of advanced software and, are linked to the Head Office where the daily transactions are closely monitored by the different departments. Other business activities are carried out through the various sister concerns such as Popular Traders, Popular Dealers, Popular Developers, Popular Printers, P & P Exports and Popular Builders. All the above are known collectively as Popular Group, Pathanamthitta. The entire sister concerns support the parent organization by returning profits regularly. Popular Traders is one of the associate concerns of the Group which is presently managing two different business divisions. One is the computer sales and service division which has also trading offices in Dubai and Australia. Sales and service of branded computers is the activity of the computer division. The other division is a chain of supermarkets housed in the strategic locations of Kerala. Popular Dealers is in the field of Electrical and Sanitary business supplying in large quantities to various construction sites and also carrying on retail trade through various sales outlets. It is a matter of pride that various financial services are offered under one umbrella. Popular distributes more than Seven Crores Rupees every month remitted from abroad through Western Union Money Transfer. We also deal in the purchase of all foreign currencies. We facilitate outward remittance of funds, by referring clients to authorised agents having RBI approval for remitting funds to any part of the world. Apart from the above activities, Popular has made its presence felt in the field of Insurance also. We are the authorised business associate of M/s. Reliance Life Insurance, M/s. Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance and M/s. Birla Sun life Insurance. We are also the authorised agents of M/s. Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Reliance General Insurance. Insurance business is done effectively through the branches spread across Kerala and outside the state. All branches of Popular extend travel related services such as obtaining passport, stamping visa, overseas accommodation arrangement and air tickets to any destination in India or abroad. In short, Popular continues to glide smoothly in this world of tough competition adding more feathers to its crown, leaving the competitors envious. |
